Discovering the Bullet Coffee Roaster by Aillio
Roasting at home, or for small batches may seem like a far-fetched idea. One would normally think of a huge commercial roaster with any mention of coffee roasting, or the exorbitant price tag that comes with the small ones. Although in recent years, home roasting has slowly gained popularity and has become easily accessible to the masses. Suddenly, the idea of home roasting sounds achievable.
That's where the Bullet takes its shot.
In this short read, we'll be discovering the Bullet, the important features and technology, and how the Bullet may potentially disrupt the whole roasting game.
What is the Bullet?
The Bullet is a compact, powerful, and innovative drum coffee roaster by Aillio, founded by twin brothers Jonas and Jacob Lillie from Denmark. Focusing on "to save our users time, money, and headaches", they came up with the Bullet back in 2017, and now with an improved version called the Bullet R1 V2.
Although recently, small coffee roasters are making appearances in the market, they are still relatively expensive, complicated, and impractical. They were not quite there yet.
To tackle this issue, the Bullet was built as a versatile sample/home roaster with extra capacity, minus the complications of a typical roaster and the lavish price point.
The handsome and compact roaster boasts an automatic drum pre-heating, adjustable heat and fan speed, and continuous real-time feedback provided by infrared bean and drum temperature sensors. It bridges the gap that has long been an issue for enthusiasts and professionals alike who wish for a small footprint roaster that is packed with professional features.
What are the features of the Bullet?
Sure, the Bullet may be a really good-looking and compact coffee roaster. However, it is the unique features and the state of the art technology that really sets it apart from other roasters.
Induction Heating Technology
To begin, the Bullet is the first coffee roaster in the world to utilize induction heating. Unlike other commercial and small roasters that uses thermal conduction (a gas or electric element transferring heat from a burner to the drum), the patented induction-heating coil technology provides more consistent, efficient heat than other roasters, so you get better results every time.
The beauty of induction is the power. It is 75% more efficient than gas with the same attribute, but only with 10 amp and only draws 1500 watts.
It eliminates energy waste, which makes the machine feel more responsive mid-roast, and earning the title of one of the greenest roasters in the world.
Infrared Bean Temperature Sensing (IBTS)
The Bullet includes the brand new, patent-pending infrared bean temperature sensors (IBTS) which is a groundbreaking solution to bad bean temperature reading from conventional bean probes. Bean probes are used in most roasters to measure the bean temperature, but they are often slow and inconsistent.
With the IBTS, your roast profile will receive instant and accurate bean temperature reading, face no lag, and remarkable consistency across batch sizes, so that you can repeat your results again and again.
Innovative Software (RoasTime and RoastWorld)
The typical roasting software requires a lot of manual work, which might appeal to some but Aillio has created RoasTime to streamline the roasting process and make it as easy and seamless as possible.
RoasTime is an amazing software by Aillio that automatically logs all your roasting profiles, saving them along with the graph and temperature over time. You can mark all the phases of your roast from yellowing to 1st crack, to 2nd crack and to the ending of your roast.
It is a smart software that allows you to automate every step of the roasting process, so you'll spend less time jotting down your roasting profiles and more time on what really matters; roasting some good coffee beans.
You're able to roast back to back batches of coffee without the drum cooling down, and therefore losing time. The cooling tray will continue to function and cool down your first batch while you load your next batch for the next round of roasting.
RoasTime also records both sensors of IBTS and bean probes and logs all your inventory of your green bean. It is an all inclusive and encompassing software that any roaster could ever ask for.
Then comes RoastWorld website, an ever-evolving community where you can share your roasting profiles, recipes, and experiences with other users. Think you have created the best roasting profile for that Brazilian beans? With RoasTime and RoastWorld, you can save your profile, upload it and share it with the rest of the Bullet community.
From setups to troubleshooting, to roasting examples and many more, RoasTime and RoastWorld opens a new world of roasting possibilities.
Who is it for, and how can the Bullet change the roasting game?
At the time of this writing, we have been roasting with the Bullet for about 2 weeks, and the results have been nothing but amazing. Even with little to no training, the learning curve isn't as steep as one would expect.
The Bullet is the perfect roaster even if you're planning to learn roasting at home.
Do you own a micro roastery and want to roast a small batch? Look no further than the Bullet.

It is beautifully made and not just another coffee roaster. It is a machinery that roasts your favorite beans as it is also a design piece. There is really nothing like the Bullet in the market whether you're a home roaster, micro roaster, or even a commercial roaster.
