Where Nordic Aesthetics Meet Culinary Excellence : Halzan
In the landmark G Hotel along the famed Gurney Drive of Penang lies Halzan, a Nordic-inspired restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel, located in Central@Gurney.
The star of the show — and the setup that greeted us — was the custom-made rose gold La Marzocco KB90 sitting atop their extensive and polished coffee bar. Next to the glorious 3-group espresso machine was not one, but two white Mahlkönig E65S Grind-by-Weight grinders with one on top of a white Puqpress M3. To the right of their coffee bar sat the King of Grinders, the Mahlkönig EK43, also in white.
We were introduced to Yee Man, the operations manager of Halzan Penang. She explained that Halzan Penang is the sister restaurant to Wheelers, also located in Penang just 15 minutes away from G Hotel. The vision behind Halzan was to be a cozy establishmen, zen-like and peaceful to have any meal of the day.
We ordered the Osmanthus Cold Brew and their special On Vacation fruit smoothie with mango, pineapple and dragon fruit. For our meals, we had their 24-hour fermented sourdough pizza topped with truffle slices and baked in a woodfire oven and the Duck Al’Orange, a 3-hour braised duck leg with a side of potato mash, carrot puree and buttered peas in an au jus and orange reduction.
Halzan is more than just an aesthetically pleasing restaurant; it offers a remarkable dining experience. Beyond its stylish ambiance, Halzan serves delicious food and drinks, crafted with fresh ingredients and presented with finesse.
