Staff Picks of the Month : Acaia Scale

This month's staff picks features Fu Jun, our retail sales specialist with 10 years of experience in the coffee industry under his belt. Fu Jun is no stranger to the specialty coffee scene, beginning his coffee journey as a part-time barista back in 2012 and also as a trainer at Barista Guild Asia a few years prior to joining Lamarsa.

"My love for coffee began when I was working as a barista about 10 years ago. I slowly grew admiration towards the third wave coffee, where every step in the supply chain is hold in high regard."

"I am not only in charge of securing sales. Other responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, answering their inquiries, offering promotions and recommendations, and processing payments. I address issues or concerns as they arise, resolving them promptly and professionally."

As the retail sales specialist, Fu Jun also highlighted the importance to maintain the presentation of the showroom and arrange displays in a manner that appeals to customers.

We asked about his favorite product, to which he replied "I truly enjoy brewing filter coffees. Of all the coffee gears that aid in filter coffee brewing, the Acaia scales are as reliable as it can get".

The Pearl S, Lunar, and Pyxis.

We were led to the demo bar, and he whipped out 3 different Acaia scales; the Pearl, Lunar, and Pyxis. Carefully explaining the differences between the scales, Fu Jun noted the prominent feature of the Acaia scales; the accuracy.

The precise accuracy is what sets Acaia scales apart from other professional scales. From the Pearl, all the way to the Pyxis, Acaia scales are accurate down to 0.01 gram. So accurate to the point that even a draft of wind will register on the scales.

The Pyxis is small enough to be carried in your pocket, perfect for traveling.

Each scale has its own use, and when it comes to brewing filter coffees, the Acaia Pearl S is his go-to coffee scale as its dimensions are perfectly sized to place any pour over. The Pearl was the first product from Acaia, funded successfully on Kickstarter, and won the Best New Product Award at the SCAA Expo in 2014.

"I always emphasize on the quality that you are getting whenever a customer inquires about the Acaia scale. There's a reason why Acaia scales are popular and is used at homes all over the world, and all the way to global competitions".

Acaia Pearl S and Pearl 2021

The Pearl S is designed to help you get the best brew possible. The display features a real-time flow rate indicator, which lets you know whether you're pouring water too fast or too slow. The LED display even has markings that serve as thresholds for so-called proper flow rates, which baristas use to help gauge how well-extracted their end cup of coffee will be. Other features include the Acaia apps integration where you can display, save, and share your brewing recipes. It can weigh up to 3000 grams, and the best part is it's rechargeable.

"The Pearl is extremely responsive, packed with professional features, and has a very sleek, minimalist design. Even our technicians prefer Acaia scales as they are easily repairable, so you know that it is built to last".

During his barista days, Fu Jun began to show interest in competitions and decided to compete in the Malaysia Brewers Cup in 2019. He finished as a finalist, a notable feat that not many can claim. If you've been reading our blogs, you'd remember Fu Jun as the winner of the brewing throwdown during the Coffee Connection event held at Kaffe 16.

"From my experience as someone who regularly attends competitions, Acaia scales are almost inseparable when it comes to serious competitions."

"It is simply reliable and precisely accurate".
